Disappointed by not being able to ride outdoors due to the recent snowfall and nearly gouging eyes out at the thought of riding rollers or the trainer alone, indoors, again; two of our native New England teammates dug out the neglected 'cross country skis for a little 'cross training on the 'cross course. Say that 3 times fast.
Donning enough layers to be nearly bullet proof with hand and toe warmers stashed everywhere, the girls clipped into their skis and were off. The fields were wide open (pun intended), conditions gloriously frigid although an ever so slight 'warm up' to about 21 had rendered the snow a bit mushy and slow in spots, prompting the need for some drafting. Snowy frozen sandpits were a breeze that required no special skills, barriers however, were another issue.
The girls warmed up in no time, needing to remove most bullet proof layers a mere 30 minutes into the ride - ahem, ski. Two hours of fully traversed fields later, the girls pack it in to go home, warm up and partake in one of the best parts of skiing and for that matter, cycling: the apres ski (or ride as it were) beer.
Just another day in the life of winter training BC/TL style.
